The Defence Space Command (DSpC) is seeking a Financial Manager to work within the Chief of Staff Branch, who will be responsible for the Financial and Contracting management within DSpC.
Outcomes will be achieved through engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including members of Defence Finance Group who have responsibility for the corporate finance systems and processes.
The key duties for the role include:
- Management of DSpC budgets (operating, sustainment, project etc), including monthly financial reporting, often within tight timeframes.
- Oversee project cost performance activities and provide accurate and timely information and advice to stakeholders.
- Evaluate the costing rationale and justifications of procurements and contract proposals to produce recommendations for management.
- Contract management for across the command, ensuring departmental policy is adhered to and financial obligations are actioned within set timeframes.
- Work independently within a small team to develop and implement financial/contracting standing instructions, work plans etc. including setting tasks and priorities, managing workflow and allocating resources.
- Contribute to the delivery of Defence and DSpC’s outcomes by assisting with the development, review and implementation of processes and systems to support current and future business requirements.
- To be able to effectively engage with both internal and external stakeholders at a range of levels including, developing and presenting a range of reports and briefs.

The Chief of Staff Directorate in DSpC manages a range of Command wide business functions and is looking for a high performing APS 6 Business Finance Manager to join our team, in this integrated and high tempo environment. On-the-job and formal training will be provided.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong skills and experience in:
- Managing the development and preparation of financial budgets, estimation and forecasting activities.
- Contract management, including but not limited to; development of supporting documentation, negotiation and management, as well as payments and financial responsibilities.
- High level planning, organising and prioritising skills.
- Managing complex work packages in compressed timeframes.
- Stakeholder engagement and management.
- Building/maintaining positive stakeholder relationships.
- Strong planning/time management skills, particularly prioritisation and critical thinking.
- Judgement and a bias for action in driving outcomes, including problem solving and flexibility.
- Financial and contracting experience.
- Skilful communicator (both written and verbal).
- Knowledge of Defence and/or Space is highly desirable but not mandatory.
- Some domestic travel may be required.
- The successful candidate will be required to have or will be required to obtain a Negative Vetting level 1 security clearance before commencing in the role.
