An exciting opportunity to join a large government authority, committed to protecting one of the world’s most iconic natural areas. They are seeking an experienced APS3/APS4 Finance Officer to join their team under a full-time temporary contract, based in Townsville, QLD for 6 months.
Your new role
We are seeking a customer focused team player to join our team. This position will play a key role in delivering a professional and quality level of customer service within the Finance section, that is valued by our stakeholders. Your work will involve providing support, advice, and accounting services to the Senior Finance Officer, in relation to management of the finances, in particular accounts payable and credit cards. You will provide problem solving, research and analytical skills, including demonstrated experience in data analysis and data management systems, as well as having well-developed computer skills in Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel.
Apply the knowledge, skills and experience to understand, analyse, maintain and manage accurate records on vendor accounts (including verifying bank details with suppliers), assuring invoices presented are accurate and payments are authorised in accordance with the Financial Delegations.Responsible for processing accounts payable invoices, ensuring accuracy of data, record of interactions and decisions.Manage credit card accounts (including but not limited to activating, issuing, processing limits), provide training to staff on the use of the system to acquit transactions within the required period, follow up on outstanding account balances with internal customers, assisting them to complete acquittals within the required timeframe.Understand specific internal and external stakeholder needs, and interpret and apply a variety of legislation, policies and procedures to provide a high level of customer service within the Finance section, that is valued by all stakeholders.Contribute to the development, maintenance and enhancement of finance policies, procedures and manuals to ensure they are efficient and effective in accordance with legislation, policy and procedures.Work collaboratively in a team based environment which includes actively participating in, and contributing to work undertaken across the Finance section, including undertaking special projects and relief of other roles at level, as required to support the business objectives.What you'll need to succeed As the suitable candidate, you will be agile and adaptive in the way you work, open to change and willing to explore innovative ways of working. You are keen to assist with financial management support, eager to share knowledge with fellow employees to build team competences and capable of contributing creative ideas to improve processing efficiencies and overall effectiveness. You will be experienced in relationships and stakeholder management.Understanding of, or the ability to quickly acquire, the legislative and legal framework of Commonwealth Government finance and procurement processesExperience in Microsoft Office products, in particular Word and Excel, and in the use of document management systems.Experience using and maintaining enterprise finance/ procurement systemsWhat you'll get in return If you are successful in this role, you will gain a fantastic opportunity to positively impact the local community under a full-time temporary contract, Monday – Friday, for 6 months.
