The Office of National Intelligence’s Quality Assurance Office (QAO) is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join its Audit and Compliance team at the APS 5 or APS 6 levels.
The Team
The QAO assures the quality, consistency, and transferability of the highest-level security clearances across the Australian Government and supports the development of insider threat capabilities. We run a comprehensive Audit and Compliance program and actively engage with Australian Government agencies to provide high quality insider threat advice and best practice guidance. The branch is small and full of passionate and professional people who work hard to help protect our National Security interests.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for people who are enthusiastic about establishing and building capability. If you enjoy coordination work and the challenge of interpreting and applying policy, these roles might be for you.
You are comfortable working in a diverse working environment, and engaging with people ranging from new to senior staff from various backgrounds, generations and personality types.

The RolesAs part of a small team, you will work closely with subject matter experts and partner agencies to support the development and day-to-day delivery of the QAO’s Audit and Compliance program. Your organisation and communication skills will be central to your success in these positions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing work programs, processes and reporting that underpin compliance activities.
- Engaging with vetting providers to coordinate audit activities and manage audit outcomes.
- Managing databases and systems for recording audit findings and reporting on compliance.)
- Providing advice to stakeholders, including vetting providers, sponsoring agencies and senior committees as part of a continuous improvement cycle.
- Liaising with multiple stakeholders, building relationships and interagency cooperation.
Key Attributes
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate:
- Proficiency in planning and coordinating with stakeholders, both internally and externally.
- A proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in an accurate, unambiguous manner.
- A proven ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to deliver results.
- Strong analytical ability to interpret policy, respond to requests for clarification and assist with recommendations for policy change.
- A sound security culture and security-focused outlook, particularly in the context of handling sensitive information and working in a classified environment.
- A willingness to participate in professional development and training opportunities.
In addition to the above, candidates applying at the APS6 level should have:
- The ability to lead, manage and contribute to a collaborative and supportive culture.
Desirable but not essential:
- Experience in security vetting, personnel security, insider threat and/or performance audit would be well regarded but not essential.
- Personnel or protective security training or qualification (for example the Certificate IV in Government Security) would be beneficial but is not mandatory as training can be provided.
