- Based at the Townsville, Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas
- HEWL 6 $83,115 - $90,022 per annum plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions.
- Design, build and maintain Recirculating Aquaculture Systems including welding, plumbing, pump repairs and pipe fitting.
- Assist and advise researchers and students on design, implementation and setting up of experiments.
- Provide technical support to ensure ongoing availability and optimal operation of water systems and aquariums for research and experiments.
Located at the JCU Townsville, Bebegu Yumba campus, MARF features eight large recirculating marine water systems supplying outdoor, undercover, and indoor lab areas as well as twenty-one indoor temperature controlled research labs, eleven of which have their own dedicated recirculating life support systems (LSS) for high resolution or specifically modified research projects.
The state-of-the-art aquatic facilities provide aquatic experimental systems to researchers and industry partners to help manage marine resources, advance sustainable fishing and aquaculture industries.

- Demonstrated experience with Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), water quality analysis and management techniques and animal husbandry techniques.
- Previous experience in programming logic and/or instrumentation and/or process controls.
- Demonstrated experience in pump servicing/refurbishment in a wide range of centrifugal pump types. Proven ability in welding and other maintenance activities.
- Well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to maintain highly effective working relationships, including demonstrated ability to consult and liaise with students and staff from all levels of University and external parties, in relation to research activities and facilities management.
- Demonstrated high level organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage own workflow and prioritise tasks within a small self-sufficient team and an established record of exercising judgement and initiative in a complex work environment.
- It is a requirement of this position to hold the following:
- Current First Aid Certificate;
- Current C class Queensland drivers license;
- Welding qualifications or willingness to quickly obtain.
- It is a requirement of this position to be available to work an on-call roster system.
