About the UQ Poche Centre

We are an Indigenous-led Health research centre focusing on Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing. We undertake multidisciplinary research to enhance understanding of diverse health issues affecting Indigenous peoples, reduce health inequity and improve health outcomes.

In addition, we aim to nurture the next generation of Indigenous research leaders. About This Opportunity

The UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health have two exciting opportunities to join the team, as either a Senior Research Technicianor a Principal Research Technician.

As the Senior Research Technician, you will provide specialist technical support and subject matter expertise in support of high-quality research outcomes at all stages of the research life cycle.

As the Principal Research Technician, you will work as part of a senior research team to provide high-level, specialist technical research expertise to scientific research projects, programs and initiatives.

This Position is designated for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people only.

There are two positions available, with flexibility to offer either part time (minimum 60%) or full-time opportunities for the preferred candidates. These positions are fixed term for 2 years, through to March 2026.

These appointments will be made at either HEW 6 (Senior Research Technician) or HEW 7 (Principal Research Technician).

At HEW level 6, the full-time equivalent based salary will be in the range $86,371 - $92,658, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $88,778 - $98,681 annually.

At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent based salary will be in the range $94,754 - $103,180, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $110,862 - $120,721 annually.

As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increased – at least once a year.

About You

The University of Queensland considers that being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act

1991(Qld). The position is therefore only open to Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. Successful candidates are required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

Selection criteria for Senior Research Technician (HEW 6):

  • Completion of a relevant degree with subsequent experience in coordinating activities or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Demonstrated research-relevant knowledge and skills with expertise in a wide range of specialist and general research techniques, including experience working with Indigenous populations.

  • Relevant experience in a higher education, research institution or Indigenous health service, or the capability to quickly acquire this knowledge and apply in the workplace.

  • Well-developed problem-solving skills, with an ability to forward plan, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work with a high level of adaptability, both independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct documentation.

  • The ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a research environment.

  • Operational project management of research program.

Selection criteria for Principal Research Technician (HEW 7):

  • Completion of a post graduate qualification with subsequent experience in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Demonstrated research-relevant knowledge and skills with expertise in a wide range of specialist and general research techniques at all stages of the research cycle.

  • Experience working with Indigenous populations.

  • Significant experience of working in a higher education, research institution or Indigenous health service, or the capability to quickly acquire this knowledge and apply in the workplace.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct research documentation and the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of research and scientific staff.

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:
