Primary objective
Assist with the development of policies and advice to Government, key client groups and the public on the sustainable
management of Aquatic Resources in the Northern Territory (NT).
Context statement
This position is aimed at a person with experience in natural Resource Management, including relevant postgraduate studies,
preferably with a focus on fisheries or aquatic environments. Sitting within the Wild Harvest Fisheries unit, the role supports
various fisheries management and reform processes. The incumbent will work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising
fisheries managers, research scientists, technical and data service officers within the Fisheries Branch.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist with the development of policy and strategic planning to ensure sustainable management and development of fish
and Aquatic Resources.
2. Assist with drafting advice and correspondence to the Minister, Director, key client groups (including relevant
committees), and other government organisations on the sustainable management of fish and Aquatic Resources.
3. Provide executive support to advisory committees and working groups on fisheries issues. This includes preparing
agendas, assembling meeting papers, taking minutes, and following up on recommendations.
4. Manage project tasks, timelines, and resources to achieve outcomes that align with department, government and, as
appropriate, key client groups’ objectives.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven experience in natural Resource Management including an understanding of the principles and strategies for
sustainable Resource Management and Ecologically Sustainable Development.
2. An ability to interpret legislation and provide advice to internal and external stakeholders.
3. Experience in planning, managing and delivering projects within deadlines.
4. Strong written skills, including the ability to produce well-structured documents for diverse target audiences.
5. Demonstrated ability to manage interactions with a diverse range of stakeholders and facilitate group discussions.
6. Proven ability to work in a team environment, with limited supervision, showing self-motivation and initiative.
7. Proficiency in relevant software, information technology systems, and digital platforms for natural Resource Management.
Desirable
1. Degree in science, Resource Management, business management or economics from a recognised tertiary institution.
