About the Role

We have an opportunity for an experienced Asset Engineering Technician – Communications & Control Systems to join our Engineering & Maintenance Delivery team. Reporting into the Maintenance Lead – Communications & Control this role will see you holding stewardship of the Communication & Control System discipline and provide assets that allow safe train and station operations which meet or exceed the MTS KPI availability payment or performance obligations relevant to the Asset Engineer Technician duties.

This role involves shift work including weekends and public holidays and could be a combination of office and rail corridor-based work.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Undertake Technical Maintenance Plan tasks for cabled communications systems, radio systems, passenger display systems, passenger announcement systems, passenger help point systems, passenger hearing impairment systems, ticket gate interface systems, visual monitoring systems including CCTV; intruder detection systems including VIDS and TIDS, video recording systems, audio recording systems, electronic access Control Systems, telephony systems, central clocking systems, associated work stations and OCC workstations, associated LV and ELV power (AC and DC) supplies, associated servers and headend systems, associated firmware and software, associated racks and other hardware, network operation configuration management, interfaces to interconnected systems which include inspections and certifications.
• Efficiently and effectively use the Asset Information Systems to ensure maintenance information is captured effectively and accurately.
• Utilise asset condition measurement and remote monitoring tools, review against technical specifications for compliance and tolerance limits, and support implementation of routine monitoring with analysis, exception reporting and remedial actions.
• Support remediation delivery of defects under existing or future asset delivery partners.
• Provide engineering knowledge support in technical, operational and maintenance information areas.
• Liaise with the Management Centre for operational and failure status information.
• Respond to emergency maintenance and be available for on call to ensure a timely and prompt incident response capability.
• Support in cost consideration decision making, formulating contract scope, time programming works and progress monitoring.
• Support with failure analysis and SMART remedial actions and implementation.

About You 

You will have proven experience in a similar role with asset technical maintenance plan development and implementation experience to achieve cost effective maintenance meeting operational RAM and technical compliance.

You will also possess the following:

• Certificate III or higher in one of the following engineering disciplines: 
• Electronics / Communications Signalling or equivalent qualifications.
• Additional Preferred: Track Protection Officer Level 2 or above qualified.
• Full electrical license (preferred).
• Experience working on Communications and Control Systems.
• Electrical assembly, fault finding and diagnostic of electrical and electronics and communication systems experience.
• The use of asset information systems, including Upkeep of asset information repositories and configuration data.
• Working at heights license (advantageous).
• Management of maintenance tasks planning and completion.
• Asset condition monitoring, trending, and predictive based monitoring.
• Skilled in the systematic analysis of failures, by data collation, analysis of relevant factors identifying root cause and contributing factors and developing SMART remedial actions.
