A career where you will play a key role in maintaining and optimising the infrastructure of Canberra Light Rail.

The Light Rail is the most significant transport infrastructure project ever undertaken by the ACT Government. Canberra Metro Operations (CMET) is the operator and maintainer of the Light Rail, dedicated to providing a safe, exceptional and quality experience for public transport users in the ACT. As we continue to expand and grow, we are looking for a capable Asset Maintenance Engineer to help us in maintaining the existing light rail network.

 What You Will Be Doing

  • Support the engineering team in the maintenance, repair, and defect management of our infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and organize materials, contractors, and activities to support ongoing operations.
  • Assist in managing contracts and subcontracted works for maintenance and defect remediation.
  • Prepare, review, and execute quotations for work.
  • Manage infrastructure defects, including assessment, evaluation, reporting, and closeout.
  • Identify and implement reliability improvements to optimize asset performance and cost.
  • Maintain high-quality maintenance data in our enterprise asset management system.
  • Develop and review internal standards, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Provide engineering support to the technician team for complex fault resolution.
  • Assist in planning and closing out preventative and corrective maintenance works.
  • Support procurement, hire, testing/calibration, or repairs of specialized tools and equipment.

We’re Looking For People Who

  • Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Have a White Card and Asbestos Awareness (essential).
  • Possess at least 2 years of experience in maintenance or construction activities.
  • Have knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation and statutes and an ability to interpret applicable legislation as relevant to operations.
  • Understand risk assessment practices and the development of controls and actions.
  • Demonstrate experience with root cause analyses and fault-finding.
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
