The role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised Assistant Accountant to join our dynamic finance team in Sydney. You'll play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day running of our financial accounting team and national trust function.
Responsibilities
- Assist with month-end processing, including preparing journals for approval.
- Support the preparation of monthly financial reports and statements for management and directors.
- Assist in analysing general ledger transactions and preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
- Coordinate and prepare annual Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) returns in compliance with regulations.
- Support the financial accountant with the annual audit.
- Assist with daily trust receipting, reconciliations, and setting up payments following internal procedures and obtaining partner authorisation.
- Assist the accounts payable team and process office/disbursement creditors as required.
- Ensure timely communication with stakeholders across the firm to meet obligations.
- Maintain adherence to trust account obligations as set out by the State Law Society.
- Promote the firm's paperless strategy by transitioning towards electronic paperwork and filing.
- Reconcile and follow up on dormant trust monies according to firm policy.
- Distribute trust account statements to clients in a timely manner.
- Assist in preparing reports for trust auditing.
- Stay up-to-date with relevant legislation and Law Society requirements and communicate them internally.
- Provide general accounting support and assistance to the wider finance team.
- Previous trust experience within a legal or property organisation is essential.
- Willingness to study CPA (funded by the firm)
- Prior accounting support experience is necessary.
- High attention to detail
- Self-starter with exceptional organisational skills
- Problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented approach
- Intermediate Excel skills with proficiency in pivot tables and Vlookups
- Eagerness to learn and progress your accounting career.
