About the role

The Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) is responsible for managing the application of bankruptcy and personal property securities laws through the delivery of high-quality personal insolvency and trustee, regulation and enforcement, and personal property securities services. 

The Technology Services division’s aim is to ensure that cutting-edge technologies are employed in alignment with industry best practices, resulting in a secure, efficient, and innovative IT environment. Our efforts are geared towards seamlessly supporting the organisation's core functions, optimising operational processes, and enabling the achievement of strategic objectives.

The Platform Team plays a critical role at AFSA ensuring that the design and delivery of underlying technology platforms and infrastructure that support various applications and services. The team is responsible for creating the foundational technology stack upon which other teams build and run their software applications.

Purpose of the Position

The Assistant Director Platforms is a technology leader, who will be a high performing leader with a track record of delivering platform infrastructure in areas of Wintel, Linux and Database. 

You will work closely with the business and infrastructure application teams to understand their requirements and priorities and identify how platform technologies can enable those solutions. You will have an ongoing focus on continuous improvement and the evolution of the platform, based on feedback and changing requirements to better meet the needs of its users ensuring that the platform is easy to use and integrate with, and that it provides clear benefits to application developers and the organisation. 

As you will be working in a geographically dispersed team, you will have strong capabilities in managing work and people remotely and remain connected to your team. 

Additionally, you remain forward-thinking, keeping a watchful eye on emerging technological trends to ensure the organisation remains innovate and enhances its technology solutions in a secure and compliant manner. 

Key accountabilities

  • Lead technology team of Platform Engineers and Administrators, providing direction, guidance, and support in the design, implementation, and operation of platform environments, primarily server operating systems and databases, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and objectives. 
  • Manage critical incidents and escalations for infrastructure platforms to ensure high levels of availability, performance and capacity. 
  • Collaborate with business, enterprise architecture and technology leadership team to develop, maintain and implement technology roadmap. 
  • Lead and collaborate in technology projects, including Windows Server migrations, Azure Cloud IAAS. 
  • Sustain and enhance the security and compliance of technology to meet organisation standard, ISM, Essential 8 
  • Maintain and improve documentation of resolutions and operating procedures, to work towards root cause analysis and continuous improvement. 
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to Platforms staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and accountability.

To satisfy character requirements all AFSA employees must undergo a police records check.
