About the team

The Adaptation Knowledge team is funded by the Climate Change Fund and NSW Adaptation Strategy. We are responsible for designing and implementing innovative climate and adaptation information tools and resources, that enable the NSW population to adapt to Climate Change. We are responsible for the AdaptNSW website, AdaptNSW forum, as well as the communication of NARCliM climate projections to various stakeholder audiences in NSW and beyond.

The primary purpose of the role

To support the delivery of projects aligned with the implementation of Strategy Action 7 “Translate climate science into accessible information and resources for people with exposure to Climate Change risks and all NSW stakeholders.”

The Assistant Project Officer undertakes a range of project research, analysis, reporting, implementation and administrative activities to support the development and delivery of projects, in line with established project plans and objectives.

Key Accountabilities
Your role would include:

  • Support the development of science communications and assist in the designing, developing, and implementation of strategic scientific information interventions, including digital tools.
  • Provide project and operational support, including monitoring and reporting on project plans, milestones and deliverables, to ensure time, cost and quality indicators are in line with approved project plans.
  • Update and collate documentation and records regarding relevant issues, policies and practices to ensure the delivery of projects complies with the agreed project management methodology.
  • Undertake basic research and analysis in assigned project areas and contribute to the preparation of project briefs to support informed decision-making and planning.
  • Assist the project team to complete tasks and implement project plans to ensure agreed outcomes are achieved.
  • Work closely with relevant stakeholders to provide updates regarding project status and implementation issues.
  • Provide a range of secretarial and administrative services, including coordination of committee meetings and preparation of briefs, reports and papers, to support project management delivery.

About You

By joining our team, you will be able to develop your science communication experience by working on programs that enable the access and analysis of climate information by our stakeholders, so they can take action to adapt to Climate Change.

  • You will have a Scientific background and some experience in science communication and science impact program delivery.
  • You have experience supporting successful projects and may have experience delivering these projects in the context of Climate Change, sustainability, environmental engineering, and/or natural resource management.
  • You will bring your professional expertise to support the team deliver key initiatives in adaptation and related opportunities in NSW.
  • You are comfortable working adaptively to help address new and emerging priorities or issues
  • You work collaboratively within and across teams managing competing demands and priorities. You can synthesise technical information and can communicate this clearly to different stakeholders.

Skills and Experience:

To be a successful candidate, you will need:

  • Some experience in science communication and designing, developing, and implementing strategic scientific information interventions, including digital tools.
  • Previous experience undertaking administrative functions, including assisting in the coordination of meetings, forums, and event recruitment and logistics
  • Experience in undertaking basic research and analysis in assigned project areas including contribution to the preparation of briefs
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with stakeholders in a project environment
  • Excellent ability to manage and prioritise a range of diverse tasks

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with Excel, SAP, and survey platforms such as Qualtrics
  • Knowledge or experience in Climate Change, sustainability, environmental engineering, and/or natural resources management.
  • Experience working in government
