About the team

The Public Guardian can be appointed by a court or tribunal to make health and lifestyle decisions for people who are unable to on their own, or with support. These include decisions such as where a person might live, their medical and dental treatment, health care, and other services. It also provides information and support to private and enduring guardians, service providers, and the wider community.

• An ongoing full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week.
• Location: Parramatta or Sydney. Flexible and hybrid working options are available.
• Clerk Grade 11/12 with a salary range between $139,787 to $161,663 per annum plus superannuation and annual leave loading.

The Assistant Public Guardian, Practice Advocacy and Strategy is responsible for leading and managing the team to deliver a range of strategic projects, educational and resource materials, policies, and procedures.

These initiatives support the Public Guardian in exercising its legislative roles, including being appointed as a substitute decision-maker, education, and engagement with the community on guardianship, and the rights of represented people in relation to the functions of the Public Guardian. The Assistant Public Guardian ensures that decisions made comply with the legislative framework and are in line with organisational priorities.

About you

As a dynamic and experienced leader, you will:

• Be adept at building strong working relationships, enhancing collaboration and communicating effectively key stakeholders.
• Can provide high-level advice and recommendations to the Public Guardian and the leadership team.
• Support effective policy development and implementation.
• Possess a passion for engaging with and educating the community.
• Advocate for continuous improvement.
• Possess the ability to develop strong interagency networks that generate positive outcomes for customers.
• Have proven ability to deliver on projects and influence change.
• Have the skills to motivate your team and provide clear strategic direction.
• Knowledge and understanding of guardianship practice is highly desirable. 

Essential requirements  

• A degree or equivalent experience in social, health, behavioural sciences, or related discipline.
• An ability to solve complex human service problems with limited human and financial resources.
• Available to travel throughout NSW and to undertake after hours on-call responsibilities to provide support and delegated decision-making on a rotational basis.
