Authorised Officer – Warragul

About the role

As a member of the Customer team, an Authorised Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day reporting of offences under the Transport Act with a focus on anti-social behaviour particularly on late night Friday and Saturday services and special events. 

The role will work with V/Line management to provide customers travelling on V/Line Passenger vehicles a trouble-free and safe journey.

Assist management in preparing for and responding to operational incident/emergency response. This includes participation in emergency and incident management training, exercises and forums. 

As well as performing duties specified in this position description an employee may be required to undertake other duties or functions consistent with their classification, capabilities, and skills.

You’ll use your exceptional communication and conflict resolution skills to create a safe and smooth operating environment.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Report all offences detected and submit relevant reports in an accurate; timely manner and ensure all reports are of the highest standard in order for successful prosecution to take place. 
  • To provide timely written reports to the Team Leader – AOs of all security and anti-social related behavioural incidents that will be included in the monthly Executive Security Management Meetings.
  • Assist the AO management team to effectively respond to operational and emergency incidents. 
  • Assist in the security and preservation of V/Line rolling stock, infrastructure vehicles and station property. 
  • Deterring anti-social behaviours / crime / vandalism / fare evasion by way of visible presence and reporting of offences under the Victorian Transport Act and Regulations on board trains and at railway stations or premises operated by V/Line.

  • Experience in dealing with difficult / confrontational situations including de-escalating volatile situations to ensure safety highly regarded

This position will be paid in line with the V/Line Operations and Administration Employees Agreement 2019 and is a Medical Category 3 position (starting rate of $34.9243 per hour, fully qualified rate of $42.6852 per hour plus penalties + super). The recruitment and selection process may include aptitude assessments, behavioural and/or technical interviews and employment references.

Successful applicants will be then required to undergo pre-employment screening including, probity (police) checks, medical assessment, finger printing and Australian entitlement to work. Employees of V/Line are required to maintain a valid Working with Children Check Victoria (Employee) for the duration of employment.  

Remuneration for this position will be in line with the V/Line Rail Operations and Administrative Employees Agreement 2019 / Asset Management Enterprise Agreement 2019).
