About GHAC

Groote Holdings Aboriginal Corporation (GHAC) originated from the 2012 Anindilyakwa Land Council (ALC) 15-year Strategic Plan. A plan driven by Community Elders to reassert control over Anindilyakwa destiny. 

In November 2018, the ALC entered a series of agreed reforms with the Territory Government to take over control of six core services and functions.  These “Local Decisions-Making Agreements” were to be transitioned and implemented over agreed periods of time.  This included the need for Economic development, GHAC is now tasked with driving the economic development of the Groote archipelago while protecting and embracing culture.

About the Role

Major projects are in their rapid development, and GHAC is developing a multifunction car service project.  The car service project will involve businesses being established for 3 clans and included a car wash, spare parts, batteries and tyres and a maintenance and mechanical workshop.  The Automotive Service Centre Manager will be responsible for establishing and managing the 3 clan businesses. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and develop the establishment of the 3 clan businesses.
  • Manage the service team, including hiring, training, and supervising technicians and other service staff.
  • Induction of new employees and training as required.
  • Plan and manage the maintenance and servicing of the fleet, ensuring vehicles comply with all statutory regulations (when start car sales).
  • Managing the maintenance and reliability of the machinery and infrastructure.
  • Maintain depot plant and equipment.
  • Responsibility for quality control systems development and ongoing compliance.
  • Responsibility for implementing safe working practices and security within the department.
  • Develop, design and maintain procedures for the workshop.
  • Supervising the maintenance of vehicles in workshop.
  • Negotiating with suppliers and parts department.
  • Oversee the scheduling of repairs and maintenance with customers and technicians.
  • Maintain inventory levels and order parts as needed.
  • Handle customer service inquiries and address any concerns or complaints.
  • Manage the budget for the service department and analyse financial data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction within the service department.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices, and implement new technologies and processes as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operation of the dealership.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical workshop processes and systems and retail operations;
  • Leadership skills and ability to manage staff;
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Proven work experience as an Automotive Service Centre Manager;
  • Proven work experience in maintaining assets;
  • Highly effective supervisory skills and techniques;
  • Knowledge of workshop software packages and MS Office proficiency;
  • Proven ability to direct and coordinate operations;
  • Strong organisational and time management skills;
  • Proficiency with computer programs and software, including inventory management systems;
  • Experience with maintaining external supplier relationships;
  • Previous management experience;
  • Previous machinist experience beneficial (Haas, Hurco, Fadal);
  • Mechanical background.

Hours of Role and Remuneration:

  • Full time role
  • Salary to be commensurate with level of qualifications and experience A salary review will be conducted at the completion of 3 months’ probation period.
  • Accommodation on Groote Eylandt (one-bedroom independent cabin - double bed)

About you

To be successful in the position, you will be able to work independently, flexibly, and able to manage the team. You will have proven experience in mechanical workshop management, including managing and maintaining assets. A business administration certificate or a similar certificate is required. At the same time, you need to have the basic knowledge of the relevant construction equipment, understand the basic equipment and tools, and know how to store and maintain them.
