About the Barkly Region
The Barkly Region covers more than 320,000 km2 stretching from the old Telegraph Station at Barrow Creek in the south to the historical droving township of Newcastle Waters in the north. Located approximately 1000km south of Darwin and 500km north of Alice Springs. Tennant Creek has a population of 3,252 and is the largest town in the region.

The estimated population of the Barkly Regional Council is 6,316 spread over 7 communities (2 regional towns and 5 remote communities). About the Role:
The Safe House Coordinator – Ali Curung provides case management support to women and children who are experiencing family violence and assists in outreach support for “at-risk” women and children by providing information, support, and referrals to relevant service providers.
The Safe House Coordinator – Ali Curung coordinates the running of the Safe House, with the assistance of Safe House Workers, to ensure the service is available for emergency accommodation related to domestic, family, and community violence on a 24/7 basis.
The Essentials:
- Demonstrated previous experience running Safe Houses or formal qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or Community Development.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to quickly establish trust and rapport and to maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Privacy Act.
- Solid understanding of the issues surrounding domestic and family violence.
- Functional knowledge of the mandatory reporting legislation related to domestic violence and the protection of children.
- Must hold current vehicle licence for a manual motor vehicle.
The Finer Details:
- Salary of $68,321.68 per annum ($1,313.88 gross per week).
- Remote Communities Zone Allowance of $2.5100 per ordinary hour worked.
- 11% Superannuation.
- Annual Leave of 6 weeks paid with 17.5% leave loading.

- Relocation Assistance of up to $5,000.
- Where eligible Council will provide the successful applicant with subsidised housing in Ali Curung at $50 per week.
