About the College
Located on a beautiful 136 acre property in the Yarra Valley (60 kilometres east of the Melbourne CBD), Worawa Aboriginal College is an Aboriginal community initiative as Victoria’s only registered Independent Aboriginal School. A full boarding school, Worawa caters for Aboriginal girls in the secondary years of schooling, Years 7-12. Worawa was established as a response to the needs of Aboriginal adolescents and the difficulties these young people experience in the mainstream educational system. Students come from Aboriginal communities across the country.
Worawa provides a holistic education based on an integrated Education, Culture, and Wellbeing model. Along with the core academic program, emphasis is placed on nurturing and celebrating Aboriginal culture as a crucial aspect of student self-esteem and wellbeing.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Boarding, the Boarding Administrator plays a pivotal role in supporting the boarding team, working closely with the Head of Boarding, boarding staff, and the School Registrar to maintain high standards of care for our boarders. The responsibilities of this role will encompass administrative management, travel coordination in collaboration with Abstudy, care team support, and contributing to the overall success of the boarding program.
This role will typically be required to work Monday – Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm, with some reasonable additional hours as required.
This position requires the incumbent to embrace the Worawa ethos of Aboriginal values, Aboriginal led decision making and the right to Aboriginal self-determination.
The successful candidate must have:
- Relevant qualification (such as Certificate IV in Business Administration, Diploma or Degree in Business or Social Work) or relevant experience.
- Current Working with Children Check and Police Check
- Experience in a fast paced Administration support role, including bulk travel arrangements.
- First Aid and Anaphylaxis training.
- Working knowledge of Victorian Department of Human Services and other legislative Child Safety, Mandatory Reporting and Duty of Care requirements (to be gained within 6 months of appointment if not current)
- Non-Government Schools Protecting Children-Mandatory reporting and other Obligations Certificate
Desirable
- Identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training
- Experience working with the Aboriginal community and a demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the diversity of Aboriginal cultures and issues affecting the Aboriginal community
