Build Up Tassie (BUT) is Centacare Evolve Housing’s unique work ready program that aims at increasing employment and apprenticeships opportunities in the Tasmanian Building and Construction Industry. We create pathways to employment, through linkages to industry with significant training partners such as Southern Central Trade Training Centre and Keystone Tasmania and our building and construction social enterprise St Joseph Affordable Homes whose purpose is to deliver substantial and sustainable employment outcomes for young Tasmanians.
Build Up Tassie is a community wellbeing initiative of Centacare Evolve Housing who manage over 2500 social and affordable housing properties state-wide and are building many new properties in response to the housing shortage. We are seeking a fulltime Build Up Tassie Skills Development Coach to work as part of our Build Up Tassie team, in partnership with St Joseph’s Affordable Homes.

The Role:
Build Up Tassie Skills Development Coach is to support apprentices and trainees to understand and develop the necessary trade skills to maintain successful employment, training and life outcomes.
The position will work collaboratively with St Joseph Affordable Homes apprentice and trainee program to support the delivery of a highly skilled and best practice apprenticeship program.
- Support the development and embedding of a high quality and unique apprentice training program in building and construction
- Coach apprentices and trainees on a one-one and group basis to build the resources required to engage in training, work experience and employment opportunities
- Track the progress of SJAH apprentices to ensure they successfully completeall aspects of course work and other specific SJAH training requirements
- Review the apprentice training plans and develop individual progression plans.
- Support the SJAH trade teams to assist with skill development delivery for apprentices.
What you bring to the role:
- Passion, enthusiasm, adaptability, proactive attitude and ability to mentor apprentices and trainees to reach their best possible self and maintain their employment.
- Certificate IV Training and Assessment (TAE40116), desirable experience working in the building and construction industry/trade qualification.
- Demonstrated experience coaching and/or mentoring young people.
- Demonstrated ability to work with both a high level of autonomy, including strong organisational and self-management skills, and as a contributing member of a team.
- Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a variety of stakeholders.
- Experience in working with individuals or small groups.
- Demonstrated understanding of apprentice training plans and requirements.
- Ability and willingness to undertake the relevant employee screening processes, including the provision of a National Police Criminal History Check satisfactory to the Archdiocese of Hobart and registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Tasmania).
- Possession of a current unrestricted Drivers Licence.
