The Building Maintenance Officer contributes to creating an Extraordinary Wollongong by undertaking maintenance, construction and repair works for Council CBD Assets.

The role emphasises autonomous operation on Maintenance projects with minimal supervisor input, ensuring safe practices. Daily maintenance on CBD assets is a key focus, along with effective implementation of Council's purchasing and Building Maintenance systems while complying with statutory requirements.

In this role you will work as an essential part of a small team delivering great customer service to both our internal and external customers, with a can-do attitude.

You will bring to this role great people skills and a well-polished manner and will be well supported by your professional multi-skilled maintenance skills and carpentry qualifications.

You will deliver a level of service at a high standard, be capable of working in a diverse working environment and able to make decisions on the run in a professional manner.

This position involves undertaking manual tasks relating to maintenance activities. Applicants should be suitably fit to undertake the duties as outlined in the job description.

The role will also have some opportunities for overtime and weekend works when required.

What you will be doing:

• Conduct maintenance and repair work on Council's CBD Assets, including painting, carpentry, and minor plumbing tasks.
• Accurately log materials used and hours worked using our work order system.
• Procure materials following Council's purchasing procedures.
• Daily, develop and prioritize maintenance work with the Facilities Controller - CBD Assets.
• Collaborate with tradespeople, contractors, and community members, enhancing Council's image.
• Adhere to safety standards as per the Workplace Health and Safety Act and participate in relevant training.
• Manage work orders, review job costs, and provide technical advice.
• Perform routine inspections and operate building management and security systems.
• Undertake minor cleaning and attend to urgent maintenance needs to uphold the Council's image.
• Serve in various capacities as needed, including Civic Attendant duties and acting as a relief Facilities Controller - CBD Assets

About you

• You will be a multiskilled building trade qualified professional looking for a change in your working environment.
• You will have great customer service skills and gain great satisfaction from delivering outcomes that meet both the customers expectation but meet your high level of professional standard of finish.
• You will be hands on and have skills to be able to apply yourself to minor plumbing, painting and general maintenance works in a built environment.
• You understand the needs of your customer and delivering above their expectations with professional detail.
