Job description

The Metropolitan Cemeteries Board (MCB) are the caretakers of Perth’s cemeteries, entrusted to commemorate the lives of Western Australians now and into the future. We respectfully help family and friends honour the lives of loved ones and safeguard memories for future generations.

We have one position available for an experienced Building Maintenance Handyperson at Karrakatta Cemetery, which will be available for an initial period of 12 months with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.

Consideration will be given for full time and or part time with job sharing arrangements.

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate person who is passionate about Building Maintenanceto provide a seamless and high-quality service to clients in our beautiful cemeteries. 

The Building Maintenance Handyperson will be responsible for:

·        Undertaking general maintenance duties such as minor painting, concreting and paving works, repairs to doors, windows, minor plumbing leaks, replacing light globes, minor welding work, moving and placing furniture in offices and grounds, pressure and ad hoc cleaning at all of our sites.

·        Assisting with regular inspections to determine which areas in buildings need attention, evaluating and repairing issues as required and communicating with Supervisors when outsourcing is necessary.

·        Keeping maintenance schedules, asset data entry, inventory auditing and stocktaking.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory National Police Clearance that is under six months old. A criminal conviction may not preclude you from gaining employment.
  2. Australian permanent residency is a minimum requirement for permanent appointment to the West Australian Public Sector. To be eligible for a fixed term appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the duration of the contract.

3.    Recommended applicants will need to pass a pre-employment medical examination which includes a standard Drug and Alcohol screening test.
