We have an exciting opportunity at Mitsui Iron Ore Development (MIOD) for a motivated individual to contribute to our large, active iron ore joint venture with Rio Tinto. The Company
MIOD is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui & Co. Ltd which is one of the worlds most diversified trading, investment and services enterprises in Japan and has a global network in 63 countries with 129 offices in addition to a number of overseas affiliates for its diversified business.
MIOD invests in iron ore mines in the Pilbara (operated by Rio Tinto). We have long-term investments in iron ore projects in the Pilbara, spanning over 50 years.
The Role
We are seeking a motivated individual with a strong interest to join our dynamic team. In this role, you'll gain exposure to major development projects and provide valuable insights that shape key business decision, contributing to internal and external growth opportunities.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Understanding major capital projects: Learn how large-scale investments are assessed, evaluated, and how your recommendations will impact decisions.
- Building and maintaining financial models: Develop practical modelling skills to support decision-making and contribute to budget and forecast analysis.
- Reviewing reports and studies: Analyse operational and financial data for insights, ensuring compliance with contractual agreements.
- Collaborating with joint venture partners: Build relationships and work with external stakeholders, participating in meetings to monitor operations.
- Supporting strategic planning: Contribute to long-term decision-making through research, analysis, and the review of tenure management applications.
The Person
You will be a motivated individual who enjoys working as a part of a successful team and is eager to contribute their enthusiasm, accuracy, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and external partners are essential. A solid grasp of commercial principles and strong financial analysis skills are important, and any exposure to the mining industry is a definite plus.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Tertiary degree in Commerce/Business.
- Between 3-5 years’ experience in related fields (business evaluation, financial analysis, or auditing).
- Understanding of joint venture agreements, operations, and governance.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and exposure to financial models.
Desirable:
- Post Graduate Professional Qualification (e.g. CA/CPA qualified).
- Big 4 audit experience.
- Exposure or experience within the mining industry.
- Japanese language skills and culture awareness.
- Advanced computer literacy including the ability to build and maintain financial model.
