About the RoleWe are passionate about people and it is with pleasure that we announce an exciting new opportunity. The Business Development Manager – Commercial Partnerships, sits within the Strategy and Business Transformation team, reporting to Head of External Relationships.
The Business Development Manager – Commercial Partnerships primary responsibilities are:
- Business Development: Develop and execute strategies to identify new business opportunities
- Revenue Generation: Drive revenue through effective sales strategies for APS's conferences, events, and PsychXchange platform. Grow existing revenue streams and identify new revenue opportunities for APS.
- Partnership Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners, sponsors, and other stakeholders to ensure long-term collaboration and support.
- Market Analysis: Conduct market research to identify trends, assess competition for development of new opportunities
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Marketing and Conference and Events teams to align Business Development strategies with the APS's overall goals and objectives. Assist in the planning and execution of the Psychxchange business plan
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure a coordinated approach to Business Development, marketing, and event planning.
We work in a hybrid model. Most team members currently work from home, with the option to work in our Melbourne CBD office when it suits them, or as the business requires (i.e. for large planning meetings).
We have staff in most states and territories, and you don’t need to be Melbourne-based to be successful in this role.

We are looking for a motivated and results-orientated professional capable of identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, negotiating, and closing deals, and developing mutually beneficial partnerships that contribute to the APS's mission and financial sustainability.
Key Selection criteria includes:
- Proven experience in Business Development, sales, or partnership management, preferably in a not-for-profit , association, or professional services context.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful sales and partnership strategies to deliver business value.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills matched with strategic and creative thinking.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and across a portfolio encompassing multiple products and services; capability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
