The Opportunity
If you have experience in campaigning for change and leading motivated teams to success; and want to make an historic difference for nature in Australia, then this might be the role for you.
We are seeking a campaign leader with a track record of success to lead an experienced advocacy team to secure new terrestrial protected areas across Western Australia. In response to the growing crisis in biodiversity loss and extinctions, Australia has committed to the new Global Biodiversity Framework that includes an historic expansion of protected areas across the country by 2030. But to make this commitment meaningful, work is required to ensure it becomes a reality. Covering one third of the continent, Western Australia will play a crucial role. The Manager, Western Australia, will lead this work for Pew.
In addition, Pew is working with Indigenous leaders to ensure that the mistakes of the Murray-Darling Basin aren’t repeated in the intact and near pristine rivers of Northern Australia. The Manager, Western Australia, will support work that is already well advanced in Western Australia to protect the Martuwarra Fitzroy River.
The successful candidate will also work as part of Pew’s wider team advocating to the Federal Government for protected area, land restoration and river protection outcomes.
A strong emphasis will be placed on ensuring benefits for both people and nature; and meaningful engagement with First Nations people. Understanding of Government and ability to activate public and stakeholder support to make change will be important to the success of the role.

Location:
The position location is from Pew’s Perth offices. Pew has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Darwin and staff located in home offices in other capital cities. The position reports to the Project Director, Protecting Australia’s Nature, and supervises a campaign team with strengths in communication, stakeholder engagement, government relations and community outreach.
