The role
The Senior Landscape Architect plays a key role in the Urban Design Team and supports the work of the Planning directorate while inspiring others to value design excellence, place making and liveability.
You will provide expert landscape design advice and prepare referrals on a range of complex development applications and appear as an expert witness on behalf of Council in the Land and Environment Court.
You will also provide specialist landscape and urban design input into Council’s broader strategic plans, policies, and master plans to improve the natural and built environment within the Canterbury Bankstown Local Government Area.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Provide advice on landscape design issues for development applications and appear as an expert witness on behalf of Council in the Land and Environment Court as required.
- Advise on any necessary changes based on DA outcomes, strengthening planning controls in relation to Landscape Architecture.
- Provide strategic landscape design advice and review of planning proposals and state significant developments.
- Support the Design Review Panel by providing landscape technical advice and considering the Panel’s recommendations in the planning assessment.
- Support and provide technical advice on master plans and other strategic planning projects.
- Provide a technical advisory service to other departments of Council on environmental and landscape matters.
- Assist in the development of landscape/urban design frameworks, guidelines, and development controls to inform Council’s planning instruments Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and Development Control Plan (DCP).
- Prepare presentation briefings and correspondence, and write reports and issues papers as required.

You will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Landscape Architecture or recognised equal in a related design field.
- Current C Class drivers’ licence.
- Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience in Landscape Architecture, including in a senior position.
- Experience or demonstrated skills in providing landscape and Urban Design advice for development applications, planning proposals and state significant DAs.
- High-level skills and experience in design and documentation.
- Working knowledge of current trends, best practice outcomes and opportunities in Landscape Architecture, including water sensitive urban design, sustainable design and knowledge of construction practices.
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $97,993 - $105,641 (Grade H, Step 1-3) + 11% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
