About the Role:
The Capital Projects Manager is a key role in the Facilities and Assets Department, a business unit within Infrastructure, Sustainability and Precincts, responsible for the management of Melbourne Polytechnic’s portfolio of 9 campus locations across Victoria.
This role is responsible for the end-to-end Project Management services on large scale education infrastructure and open space projects from inception right through to hand over. The Capital Projects will be high-profile and delivered in a collaborative, sustainable and innovative manner. It’s a very exciting time to join the Facilities and Assets team, where there is plenty to inspire you every day!
Reporting to the Director of Facilities and Assets, we are seeking a dynamic individual with a strong project skillset. A strong accountability for the delivery of Melbourne Polytechnic’s Master Plan projects and other significant maintenance projects across all campuses will be expected.
Duties:
- The delivery of all Capital Projects, on time, on budget, and to quality standards, ensuring that agreed scope and project outcomes are delivered to the requirements of key stakeholders.
- Plan for and deliver Capital Projects from initial scope, budgeting and feasibility, town planning, tender and construction.
- Manage project team members and influence them to take positive action and accountability.
- Provide leadership and support to team members within the wider business and functions on the project.
- Engage with and manage stakeholders collaboratively throughout the lifecycle of the project, providing meaningful, timely and consistent insights and updates.
- Contribute strategically as a key member of the Facilities and Assets leadership team, assisting in the development of the strategic capital management plan, business cases and business improvement.

Skills and Experience Required:
- Tertiary qualifications in program/project management or a related discipline, or equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Experience in management and delivery of a works portfolio and transformation projects, within a large, complex organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in leading a diverse team in a complex and dynamic environment, and passion for driving a constructive and high-performance culture within a leadership group and with direct reports.
- Proven ability to manage project scope, perform project scheduling and programming, finance management, resource management, and risk management, while ensuring quality assurance and issue resolution.
- Capability in establishing, implementing, and monitoring project management framework, processes, governance and tool sets within an organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in engaging with senior stakeholders to develop a strategic capital program that aligns with organisational business strategy and delivers great outcomes based on industry needs.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and demonstrated ability to encourage and inspire project partners to produce quality outcomes.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of complex and competing project priorities.
- Knowledge of educational, public building compliance, regulatory environment and government procurement policies and procedures would be advantageous but not mandatory.
- A current Police Check, or international Police Check if you have resided continuously in an overseas country for 12 months or more in the last 10 years.
- A current Working with Children Check (Employee).
