Job description

The Heart Centre for Children at the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, is one of the largest and busiest sub-specialty teams within the SCHN and provides cardiac care to children of New South Wales and the surrounding regions at the Children’s Hospital Westmead, Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick and within our outreach centres. The HCFC Clinic Nurse will work collaboratively with the Cardiac Services team to provide safe, compassionate, person-centred care to children and families. 

The EN is expected to: 
• Collaborate effectively with HCFC staff to ensure streamlining of cardiology clinics 
• Perform and document, height, weight and vital signs on all patients prior to Consultant review 
• Facilitate streamlining of clinics through directing families to necessary tests prior to Consultant review 
• Consults with the RN and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team to facilitate the provision of accurate information, and enable informed decisions by others 
• Escalates concerns to CNC2/CNS2/Fellow/ Consultant regarding a patient’s condition in a timely manner. 
• The EN will use a variety of communication methods to engage appropriately with other HCFC staff and documents accordingly. 
• Maintaining the stock within the consultation rooms, to ensure appropriate equipment is available at the time of consult including checking of arrest trolley. 
• Support the Cardiothoracic Surgery Preadmission clinic to provide a comprehensive preadmission service for patients with cardiac conditions requiring surgery and their families 
• Document in patient record accurately and concisely and in a timely manner 
• Communicate relevant patient information, findings and results relating to patient admission, for example MRSA alerts, interpreter requirements.


What you'll be doing

The Enrolled Nurse provides safe, compassionate, person-centred care to patients and their families of Sydney Children's Hospital Network.
The Enrolled Nurse acts as a role model by demonstrating behaviours and interacting with patients, their families and employees in a ways that promotes a culture and standards that reflect the NSW Health CORE values of Collaboration, Openness , Respect and Empowerment

  1. Current Authority to Practice as an Enrolled Nurse - Medication Endorsed with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  4. Recent clinical experience in a hospital setting.
  5. Computer literacy.
  6. Capacity to work a seven (7) day rotating roster including public holidays and reasonable overtime

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
