We have an exciting opportunity for a fulltime versatile and talented Cargo Terminal Manager to join the Menzies Aviation (Virgin Australia & Sky Trans) Cargo Team based at the Cairns International Airport Terminal Faciality.

What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Queensland General Manager of Cargo based in Brisbane, you will deliver high performance standards around all aspects of the Cargo Services operation, meeting the requirements of both our airline customers and freight forwarding/custom agents, and maintaining health and safety and overall good working practices in accordance with company policies and procedures at all times.
Being a hands on and strategic business partner for both our Cairns based Cargo teams and our partners Virgin Australia & Sky Trans is our goal. Whilst your role very operational, your daily/weekly/yearly deliverables will be focused around the following areas:
- Ensure a safe working environment for all staff and customers
- Manage and develop the operational budget with a strong emphasis on cost control
- Ensure the Cargo operation meets the customer airline service standards
- Strive to achieve customer service excellence
- Contribute to the commercial development of the business
- Ensure development of staff through training and performance reviews
- Compliance with Cairns Airport, Quarantine and the company’s policies and procedures
- Regular liaison with relevant authorities including participation on relevant committees and working groups
- Ongoing review of external supplier services to ensure competitive rates prevail
- Regular communication with internal and external customers, including other station management
- Ensure operational safety and security is upheld
- Managing and co–ordination of staff performance and discipline matters
What we need from you
- Professional, approachable and warm in style with a strong attention to detail
- Previous experience in the same or similar role for a minimum of 1-2 years
- Effectively and efficiently work autonomously
- Hold a current forklift licence (or be able and willing to obtain one)
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Security Identification Card (ASIC)
- You will be extremely flexible and happy to get down into the detail and be operational
- Exposure to a blue-collar workforce will be highly regarded
- Strong ability to problem solve and deliver solution based outcomes
- Can anticipate needs, be agile and flexible to ensure deadlines are met
- Strong stakeholder services skills
- Effective and efficient time management skills
- Strong written & verbal communication skills, with a focus on detail
- Proficient ability to utilise the Microsoft Office suite
- The ability to conduct light domestic travel every few months to locations such as Brisbane and the Gold Coast
