At MDAS, the Out of Home Care Caseworker will work within the Cultural Care Services team providing services to eligible clients referred to programs such as Home Base Care and Kinship Care. You will act as a dedicated caseworker within a multi-disciplinary team providing a range of intensive and complex case management services and practical support under the Best Interest Case Practice Model. Travel between all MDAS locations including overnight travel to maximize work schedules may be required from time.
The Caseworker Out of Home Care is responsible for providing the following services:
• Kinship Family Service providing long term support for Kinship Care Arrangements.
• Placement and support services including case contracted case management.
Key Selection Criteria:Sound understanding of the local Aboriginal community, family dynamics and issues faced within the local community and culture and understanding of issues relevant to Aboriginal people.
With a strengths-based approach, solve problems based on operational knowledge and experience, scanning for useful information, looking for underlying causes and suggesting alternative actions for clients and staff.
Communicate, consult, liaise, and negotiate with a broad range of people both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal people at all levels to achieve broad project objectives and goals.
Understands underlying needs and issues of stakeholders and negotiates effectively to develop and implement solutions.
Uses knowledge and experience to develop and implement systems to plan and monitor own performance.
Understanding of therapeutic intervention underpinned by trauma attachment theory and resilience.
Take action to provide services that are inclusive of Aboriginal people and engage in learning about other cultures to better establish relationships and improve services.
Qualification/s:
Qualification of Certificate IV in Community Services or higher or undertake study during first 12 months in the role.
