CASUAL STRINGS TEACHING ARTISTS - WASO CRESCENDO PROGRAM

WASO continues to focus on innovation and excellence for the arts throughout our community and through our Community Engagement and Education Program we currently reach close to 30,000 people each year. In its tenth year, our El Sistema-inspired Music Education Program, Crescendo, has been running in two Kwinana Primary Schools and is the only program of its kind in Western Australia.

The Sistema model, established in 1975 in Venezuela, seeks to empower children from disadvantaged backgrounds through classical music, using it as a tool to help them reach their full potential and learn life values.This life changing music education model is now running in over 55 countries around the world.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a team of passionate teachers in Casual Strings positions. The role will focus on the preparation and the delivery of violin and/or cello lessons for WASO’s Crescendo Program to all students at both schools, from Year Four to Year Six, dependent on time-tabling. The role will also involve building and maintaining community relationships, role modelling and empowering children from disadvantaged backgrounds through classical music. 

Skills Required

To be successful you will have: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Music Education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of music and the WA Education system and have an understanding of music specific and arts general education practices. 
  • The role will suit a highly motivated individual who is passionate about working with children and building local communities.
  • Teaching experience within the past 5 years.

You will also be able to demonstrate:

  • A strong Music Education background with experience developing and delivering music programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with children from culturally diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • A high level of violin/or cello pedagogy. 
  • Knowledge of Kodaly and Suzuki teaching methods.
  • The ability to utilize textbook resources (Strictly Strings, Vamoosh, Essential Elements for Strings or String Time Joggers) as required.
  • You must be well organised and be able to travel to Kwinana, be available to plan lessons and begin teaching in Term 3, 2024.
