Category Manager - Local Council - Temp Role

Our client is a leading local council, who are seeking an experienced procurement professional with a broad base of exposure to strategic procurement and category procurement.
Your new role
Working in conjunction with the procurement team, the Category Management Partner will be responsible for providing a broad degree of support across the procurement team.
Key roles and responsibilities of the position will include:
- Execute strategic category plans to enable continuous improvement and added value in areas such as value for money, risk reduction and triple bottom line outcomes.
- Act as the procurement subject-matter expert for assigned categories in accordance with procurement policy and procedure and all legislative requirements.
- Consult with internal and external stakeholders to manage the delivery of successful Category Management outcomes in accordance with good professional practices, legislative requirements, Council’s Policies and Procedures and to the requirements of the work area.
- Participation and engagement with key stakeholders through groups such as the procurement advisory committee, interpretation and identification of recommended improvements.
- Manage contractual and administration matters such as preparation of specifications and tender documentation, tender evaluations, conflicts of interest and use of related computer systems.
- Work closely as a trusted business partner with work areas to determine how to best optimise supply chain value that supports direct service delivery to customers.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you'll come with prior experience managing high value, business critical procurement activity within the public sector.
Key skills and experience required to be successful will include:
- A background in local council or the public sector
- Demonstrated experience in strategic service/ works Category Management, procurement, tendering and contract management, and enhanced understanding of the legislative and policy requirements.
- Proven experience in achieving substantial cost reductions through effective management of service/works categories.
- Degree or diploma qualification in a related field with several years' experience, or Certificate IV in a related field with extensive experience.
