Chef for child care centre
Neutral Bay Kindergarten is an Australian family owned centre located in the lower north shore of Sydney. It has been serving the community since 1981. We cater to up to 57 children aged between 2 and 5 years of age. We open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday, 50 weeks a year, and we close on NSW public holidays. We pride ourselves on our commitment and passion to the early childhood education. There are plenty of free parking spaces nearby around the centre, a bus stop is just opposite our centre.
The successful applicant will be highly motivated, organised and committed to ensuring children receive healthy, multicultural, visually appealing and where required allergen-free food. The role includes stock and budget control, menu design, and general kitchen duties ensuring adherence to food regulations and safety procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Keeping up with industry trends and creating new recipes with the Centre Director
- Reviewing the menu and doing inventory
- Following the budget set by the Restaurant Manager
- Ordering food for the kitchen
- Monitoring food production and food and staff costs
- Training other staff on cooking and servicing
- Managing relationships with distributors and resolving any issues with vendors, promptly
- Ensuring standard portions and quality of dishes
- Maintaining a clean and safe kitchen and ensuring sanitation practices in the kitchen
- Keeping a record of fridge/freezer temperature
- Preparing food for cooking nutritious morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea for 57 children (including food for children with special dietary requirements and allergies) and cater for special events throughout the year.

Skills and experience
- Safe Handling of Food Certificate, or Food Safety Supervisor (or willingness to obtain) or Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.
- Working With Children Check for employees.
- Experience in planning and providing nutritional meals for children desirable
- Experience working in early childhood settings highly desirable but not essential
