The Engineering Services Unit provides specialist services for OIR. In addition to the Chief Safety Engineer, it consists of engineers with expertise in construction, mechanical, civil, electrical and electronic systems engineering and specialize in the provision of technical advice, training and processing of high-risk plant design applications.
As part of the role, you'll:
- Provide professional and technical advice to OIR stakeholders, Government departments, the private sector, industry associations, unions, and the general public.
- Participate in design, development, implementation and evaluation of high-quality programs and services that improve analysis of failure in structural, material, electrical/electronic and mechanical/ hydraulic/pneumatic systems and outcomes for Queensland workplaces.
- Prepare high quality written documentation including reports, briefing notes, discussion papers, options papers, departmental and other correspondence in accordance with departmental standards and to set timeframes.
- Develop and deliver education and training programs for OIR staff and external stakeholders, and evaluate programs to ensure adequate skills, competencies and standards are attained.
- Liaise and work with inspectorial staff to ensure the successful implementation of operational procedures relating to complaints concerning safe design, maintenance, and use of plant in the workplace.
- Provide professional and technical leadership to OIR's inspectorate relating to engineering services and matters through coaching, guidance, tools and access to training and development.
- Represent OIR on internal and external committees at department, state, and federal levels.
- Represent the department in a variety of forums and advocate on issues relating to safe design, maintenance, and use of plant in the workplace.
- Provide training and support to the other members of the Engineering unit.
- Contribute to a proactive team environment that takes the initiative to create a shared sense of purpose.
- Provide support to Chief Advisors leading Major Amusement Parks safety case licence programmes.
- Maintain sensitivity and confidentiality during all interactions and liaisons with staff and stakeholders.
