About the Organisation

The Asbestos Disease Support Society (ADSS) is a not-for-profit organisation which was founded in 1992 to provide support to those affected by asbestos related diseases, their families and carers.

With a membership base of over 750 (and growing), their operations incorporate four pillars (support, advocacy, awareness and education) with the vision of being a voice of change for the elimination of asbestos related lung disease.

You can learn more about ADSS at https://adss.org.au/

About the Role

This senior leadership role will provide transformational leadership for ADSS to meet its strategic, commercial and operational aims in Queensland and the Northern Territory.

This role will manage and work with various stakeholders to champion the mission of the ADSS in assisting sufferers and those impacted by asbestos and silica related disease and eliminate future incidences by preventing exposure.

You will work closely with the management committee in transforming the organisational culture and developing and building on sustainable health care related activities to the membership, together with developing a strategic plan that will foster a collaborative culture with employees, partners, supporters, members and volunteers to help achieve this vision. Your focus will include:

  • Membership and sponsorship expansion (driving substantial growth in the membership base over the next 12-24 months as well as seeking out fundraising and sponsorship opportunities).
  • Representation and industry leadership (acting as the face of the Society, advocating collective interests and positioning yourself at the forefront of the NFP sector).
  • Achieve maximum impact from education activities, events and media engagement opportunities.
  • Event management (overseeing and leading networking events including annual society events and fundraising).
  • Stakeholder engagement (including connecting with key stakeholders in the health care field and engaging with government bodies and other key stakeholders).
  • Building relationships with staff, suppliers, members, partners, consultants, and government departments.
  • Manage the annual budget (including quarterly forecasting) and monitor/report on financial performance to the management committee.
  • Manage and monitor government grants and compliance/governance obligations.

You will also build and lead a high performing team and culture that currently includes a small team of staff that perform administration, membership, marketing and accounts functions, together with a social worker.

Essential Skills and Experience

To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

  • Past success in organizational leadership roles in the NFP/NGO space.
  • Senior level stakeholder management expertise.
  • A proven ability to work with boards/management committees.

Together with:

  • Demonstrated ability to grow organisational revenue and profit/surplus
  • Confident and influential communication skills with a proven ability to forge positive working relationships with all stakeholders at every level
  • Experience with various cross-functional business systems, membership (CRM) management platforms, accounting systems (ideally Xero) and MS Office
  • Experience with social media platforms to support marketing goals
  • Demonstrated ability to improve financial processes
  • Strong analytical and financial knowledge (including P&L management)

Ideally, you will also have the ability to draw on existing networks in government and industry to support the cultivation of new supporters and revenue opportunities and display expertise in marketing and fundraising.
