Situated in the far west of Queensland, Diamantina Shire sprawls across an enormous 94,823 km2, surpassing the size of Tasmania! Despite being the second largest local government by area in Queensland, the Shire is home to a small resident population of 300.
The Shire is known for natural sand hills, historical buildings, rare flora and fauna, inland river systems, historic stock routes, ancient Waddi trees, and picturesque sunsets, making it a memorable destination. Bedourie, the Shire’s Administration Centre, offers modern amenities, including a hotel, motel, roadhouse, caravan park, a desert golf course, and a heated Aquatic Centre with an Artesian Spa.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position is pivotal in offering Council mature and well-informed guidance, contributing to policy development, and holding complete managerial responsibility for all of Council’s operations. The role is also accountable for fostering effective communication with Township Communities across the Shire, managing all staff, and engaging successfully with external stakeholders.
With a budget exceeding $38 million, the Shire employs over 65 staff to manage its vast and diverse landscape. You will work collaboratively with the Mayor, Councillors, our Council team and local communities to navigate exciting challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
We’re seeking a visionary individual with excellent communication skills, adaptability, and a commitment to rural living. While a good understanding of the region is a plus, we understand this location is unique, and we welcome candidates who can quickly grasp the unique aspects of this remote setting. Your innovative approach and ability to promote economic development will play a vital role in driving the Shire’s success.
This isn’t just a role; it’s an opportunity to make a meaningful impact. As the CEO, you’ll have the chance to foster a positive work culture, recognise performers, and lead a team aligned and committed to achieving common goals. Immerse yourself in the unique beauty and rich history of the Diamantina region, leaving a lasting mark on a vibrant community.
An attractive Remuneration Package and conditions are available for the right candidate.
