About the organisationThe English Teachers Association of NSW is a professional association of teachers committed to stimulating teaching and learning in English. They seek to present examples of best practice in the profession to promote rich learning experiences for both teachers and students.
Due to the retirement of their Executive Officer after a successful career leading the association, ETA NSW now seeks to appoint a new CEO to take the organisation to the next stage of its evolution.
As a learning community, their purpose is to offer support through the provision of professional products and services, and advocacy in the interests of ensuring the quality and appropriateness of the experience of English for students.
Key objectives of the role
- Strategic planning and implementation of the ETA NSW strategy and direction, in alignment with the vision, mission and priorities of the organisation
- Develop, implement, and monitor the budget in conjunction with the Board and wider team
- Ensure governance and legal compliance are upheld through the development and maintenance of effective systems
- Provide high levels of leadership, coaching and support to the team through a culture-focused approach, to ensure staff satisfaction, retention, productivity and performance
- Produce financial reports, oversee audit processes, and review income streams, income diversification opportunities, and provide management of the investment portfolio
- Monitor, maintain and enhance stakeholder relationships, contribute to national policy and advocacy activities, and encourage cooperation between state divisions
Knowledge, skills, and competencies
Essential skills:
- An experienced English educator, with a strong understanding of the Australian education system
- Demonstrated knowledge of teacher accreditation and NESA accredited professional development
- First-class leadership skills, with the desire to lead a membership association
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability with using technology in a pedagogical setting, utilising software, applications, and online learning platforms to improve systems and processes
- Experience of working closely with a Board to lead operational management
- Outstanding stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate change and provide strategic leadership where necessary
- A tertiary qualification in management, business, or public administration
- Strong business acumen, with an interest in marketing and social media
- Experience and desire to run successful events with the support of a dedicated inhouse team of planners
- The ability to write newsletters, letters, and other professional communications
