Job description

The Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE) is Australia's most awarded 3D animation, game development and visual effects educator with campuses in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide and Online. AIE is a not-for-profit organisation with a commitment to delivering high quality, specialist vocational and higher education.

We are seeking for an experienced Chief Financial Officer to manage the financial activities of the Employer and related entities, including but not limited to AIE Institute, AIE Seattle and AIE Lafayette. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Accounts team
  • Prepare or review various reconciliation workpapers and draft the annual financial report in preparation of the annual audit and ensure the accuracy of the information contained in the report and its compliance with statutory requirements
  • Formulate budgetary policies, accounting policies and business process improvements and ensure the effective communication and compliance with the policies to and by management and staff
  • Ensure the AIE and related entities comply with various internal and external accounting and legal obligations
  • Prepare together with the CEOs the annual CAPEX, operating and other budgets 
  • Examine operating costs and the income and expenditure of business units, including related entities, and provide interpretative advice to the business unit managers
  • Conduct financial investigations, undertake internal audits, prepare reports and assist with regular advice for the company and its employees ie salary packaging and FBT compliance
  • Management of the payroll functions of the AIE and related entities, including payroll, payroll tax, FBT return and superannuation reporting
  • In conjunction with external advisors, provide financial and taxation advice on business structures, plans and operations
  • Provide cash flow analysis and financial risk analysis of capital projects and new business ideas
  • Plan short and long-term cash financing arrangements for the business and any related entities
  • Develop and direct business processes/systems so that costs can be recorded, analysed and interpreted to support business unit managers
  • Provide reports to management summarising the AIE’s financial position in areas of income, expenses, capital expenditure and cash flow and, where appropriate, assist with the preparation of strategic plans, budgets and financial forecasts
  • Travel interstate or overseas as required

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Accounting; Chartered Accountant and/or relevant experience of at least 8 years. 
  • Member of Institute of Chartered Accounts or CPA Australia   
  • Prior experience working with Registered Training Organisations and Higher Education Institutions or in the Vocational Education and Training sector and/or the Higher Education sector with an understanding of AQF, ASQA and TEQSA, State Government Funding and knowledge of National Training System is certainly an advantage.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office 365 products, including Teams and Excel
  • A comprehensive skill set in oversight of financial reporting, budgets, investments, accounting and contracts 
  • Ability to work under pressure, plan effectively and delegate 
  • Excellent communication skills

  • This is a full-time position with a 5-month probation period.
  • Salary is negotiable depending on experience.
