Diamantina Shire Council is currently seeking qualified and experienced professional for the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO). This presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of a local government in the distinctive region of far west Queensland.
Spanning an expansive 94,823 km2, Diamantina Shire surpasses the size of Tasmania. Despite its vastness, the Shire is characterised by a close-knit community of approximately 300 residents, making it the second-largest local government by area in Queensland.
As the Chief Operating Officer, you will play a crucial role in shaping the implementing Council’s strategies into daily operations. You will be the liaison between Council’s three management areas, Infrastructure Services, Corporate Services, Community and Economic Development. Your primary responsibilities include overseeing and coordinating departments to ensure the smooth functioning of the council’s daily operations. This role also involves collaborating with Councillors executives to develop and implement strategic plans aligned with the Shire’s unique goals and aspirations.
Financial oversight is a key aspect of the position, requiring the COO to manage budgetary matters, resource allocation, and financial planning to ensure fiscal responsibility and financial sustainability. Community engagement is emphasised in this role, with the expectation you will build and foster strong relationships with the community, stakeholders, and external entities to enhance the Shire’s connectivity.
Qualifications and experience sought for this position include proven experience in a senior management role, preferably within local government or a related field. The ideal candidate should possess proven leadership and interpersonal skills, strategic thinking abilities, and financial acumen.
