About the role
Calvary Mater Newcastle’s Department of Radiation Oncology is NSW’s largest regional specialist radiation therapy centre. We offer world-class radiation therapy using precision technology to deliver the best available treatment.
The Chief Radiation Therapist provides management and coordination of the Radiation Therapist team within Calvary Mater Newcastle, providing strategic and operational support to ensure all patients have access to a safe, efficient and effective radiation therapy services. You will manage the provision of radiation therapy services including planning and coordination of services, and provision of expert advice to achieve both budget and service delivery targets whilst maximising service delivery outcomes for patients.
Key Responsibilities

• Actively participate in the Radiation Oncology Management Committee to contribute and develop strategic direction.
• Lead and direct the workflow of Radiation Therapy staff to ensure radiation therapy services are performed in accordance with legislation and approved policy and procedures.
• Ensure radiation services are provided in accordance with legislative requirements, risk management and safety frameworks.
• Manage workforce functions including rostering, leave management, timely recruitment, induction and professional development.

What you bring

• Qualified to practise Radiation Therapy, registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and licensed by the NSW Environment Protection Authority to use ionising radiation apparatus with experience as a level 4 (senior) Radiation Therapist or higher.
• Effective leadership and management skills, with an established track record of collaboratively, respectfully and transparently leading in a complex environment within a multidisciplinary environment.
• High level communication, interpersonal and organisational skills including the ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex issues to all levels of staff and experience in managing change in a dynamic environment, as well as demonstrated ability to create and maintain a harmonious workplace.
• Demonstrated ability to work constructively as both a member and a leader of a team with all clinical staff in a complex health care setting, with the ability to effectively motivate and develop staff within a multidisciplinary team and environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to customer service, patient safety, quality improvement, and risk and incident management.
• Up-to-date, extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of radiation therapy including a demonstrated personal commitment to quality improvement, clinical research, ongoing education and professional development especially in leadership and management.
