Position Description:Child and Family Worker
Child and Family Services, consists primarily of the Targeted Early Intervention, Children and Schooling and the Safety and Wellbeing programs and provides flexible and intensive support to families’ dependant on their needs. The Child and Family Worker will work with vulnerable children, young people, and their families where risk factors or concerns are present, such as family violence, mental health, alcohol and/or other drugs, underdeveloped parenting skills and/or capacity, the family may be at risk of becoming involved with DCJ Child Protection, and/or other child wellbeing or parenting concerns may be present. They will also help families to identify and work towards goals that reduce risk to children and/or young people, address concerns present, and encourage the health and safety of children and young people in the home. The Child and Family Services team will link to and build upon existing Child and Family services within the broader system providing an enhanced continuum of care, provide better support, and achieve measurable outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Employed as a Child and Family Worker you will be required to hold an accredited qualification relevant to the position at Degree Level or above.
- Diploma level qualification in a relevant field may be considered, on the proviso that the applicant will commit to undertake further Tertiary studies with the support of the Organisation.
- Have a passion and commitment for supporting children and families across the Child and Family support/child protection continuum and ideally have transferrable practice experience in the sector or similar fields.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field.
- Experience in dealing with children who have experienced trauma and interrupted attachment would be an advantage.
- A current driver’s licence and a willingness to travel and preparedness to be accommodated overnight when required.
