Clinical Manager, Statewide Mental Health Telephone Access Line (SMHTAL) - Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service
Employment Type: Temporary Part Time (through to April 2025)
Position Classification: Clinical Psychologist, Nurse Unit Manager Level 1, Occupational Therapist Level 4, Senior Psychologist, Social Worker Level 4
Remuneration: $53.23 - $64.88 per hour plus superannuation

An exciting temporary opportunity exists for an experienced Mental Health clinician wanting to gain leadership to work in the role of Acting Clinical Manager for the State-wide Mental Health Telephone Access Line (SMHTAL). Supported by the Community Service Manager, to provide short-term Mental Health interventions to people experiencing acute episodes of Mental Health distress or illness.
The Acting Clinical Manager will provide leadership, guidance, supervision and line management of the multidisciplinary community Mental Health team. The role requires a high degree of both clinical and professional judgement to navigate critical challenges with minimal direction and is a great opportunity to obtain critical skills and experience amongst inspiring clinicians and within an innovative service.

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver high quality acute Mental Health care to consumers consistent with South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards.
  • The SESLHD SMHTAL provides access, support and referrals for people in the community experiencing Mental Health distress or illness, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Clinical Manager for SMHTAL will provide leadership, clinical governance, supervision and line management for the multidisciplinary clinical team.
  • The Clinical Manager will undertake work with significant scope and/or complexity and or undertake professional duties of an innovative, novel and or critical nature without direction.
  • The SMHTAL Clinical Manager will ensure that team clinicians comply with MHOAT data entry requirements. Co-ordinate the recording and evaluation of data and outcome measures ensure accurate and uniform client records are maintained.
  • Ensure provision of data reports for District and team use.
  • Participate in team development in consultation with the Community Service Manager.
  • Facilitate and participate in clinical service development and management.
  • Co-ordinate team meetings & district wide meetings related to SMHTAL and provide minutes to the team and Service Manager.
  • Participate in the development of clinical practice, policies, and business rules.
  • Participate in the establishment, development and maintenance of education and training of local organisations working with people with a mental illness.
  • Lead regular case review processes to evaluate effectiveness of individualised care plans.
  • Support the Service Manager in effectively and efficiently managing and maintaining team resources including team resources and other equipment
  • Co-ordinate, conduct and document regular staff performance reviews with their team.
  • Ensure regular liaison with all disciplines within the Team to determine training and supervision needs.
  • Plan, monitor and co-ordinate clinical practice development/ training needs.
  • Co-ordinate and participate in clinical supervision of clinicians.
  • Monitor and manage clinician attendance, daily movement / activity and planned/unplanned leave.
If you are an overseas qualified Social Worker, you are required to have your qualifications assessed by the AASW to meet the position criteria
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

Selection Criteria * Tertiary qualifications in Social Work and eligible for membership with AASW. Tertiary qualifications in Nursing, Occupational Therapy or Psychology (with a minimum four-year degree with a major in Psychology and registration with the Psychologists Board of Australia) and registered with AHPRA
  • Ability to manage and direct the delivery of services in a complex Mental Health setting
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of contemporary issues and priorities in Mental Health services
  • Demonstrated skills in clinical leadership, performance review and supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to perform complex and critical discipline specific clinical worker with a high level of professional knowledge and by exercising substantial professional judgement
  • Current unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence
