Position Profile and Role:

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) is seeking to appoint experienced Clinical Nurses who can provide high level specialized care to our infants, children and young people.

You will demonstrate competence in clinical practice by delivering individualised care using a problem-orientate approach to patients with complex problems. You will coordinate patient care activities by providing goal-directed leadership to junior staff and effective liaison with senior nursing and other health care personnel.

What you will be doing:

  • Practicing and promoting safe, efficient and effective nursing care for young people experiencing Mental Health problems that reflect current National practice standards for Mental Health, current standards of nursing practices and current Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service policies and procedures.

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with minimum 3 -5 years' experience

This is an open-ended recruitment pool until 31/07/2024 for suitably qualified Clinical Nurse applicants.

About Directorate:

Clinical Nurse positions are available in the below directorates:

Touchstone - Touchstone is a structured day program for young people aged 12 to 17 years and their families. The program works with young people who are struggling to cope with relationships, mood difficulties and impulsive self-harming behaviours.

Eating Disorders Service - The Eating Disorders Service is a specialised service for the assessment and treatment of young people with eating disorders, and their families. The program accepts referrals for young people up to 18 years.

Gender Diversity Service - The Gender Diversity Service (GDS) is a specialist outpatient service for the assessment and care of children and adolescents experiencing gender diversity issues. Any child or young person up to the age of 18, who lives in Western Australia, can be referred to the GDS for consultation about concerns regarding their gender identity, gender non-conforming behaviour or gender dysphoria.

Mental Health Inpatient Unit (Ward 5A) - The Mental Health Inpatient Unit on Ward 5A at PCH is the state-wide assessment and treatment facility for children and young people up to 16 years old with complex and acute Mental Health issues. It is a recovery-focused patient and family-centered service. It offers a seven-day multidisciplinary program in a safe environment for voluntary and involuntary patients as authorised under the Mental Health Act (2014).

Community CAMHS - Community CAMHS offers Mental Health assessment and multidisciplinary intervention for children and young people up to the age of 18 years. Young people experiencing Mental Health difficulties may access support through friends and family and/or services, such as their GP, school nurse / psychologist / counsellor or a private psychologist (with support from their GP through a Mental Health Care Plan), headspace or other services.

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Western Australia offers support, advice and treatment to young people and their families who are experiencing Mental Health issues. Children and families are referred to Mental Health by their treating therapist, specialist, GP, School or other community organisation. CAMHS provides recovery-focused programs, and services for children from birth up until a person turns 18 years old. We are in the community and in hospital. Families may receive services from one or more of these areas.
