The Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit (CTSU) provides surgical management of a variety of cardiovascular and thoracic conditions including ischaemic heart disease, valvular disease, aortic disease, adult congenital heart conditions, as well as benign and malignant lung diseases.
SALHN is recruiting specialist Cardiothoracic theatre nurses to our established team to service an increase in demand for cardiac and thoracic surgical services. CTSU works closely with Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care to provide care for cardiac and thoracic patients and their families.
Cardiothoracic Operating Theatres are seeking experienced, motivated cardiothoracic scrub/scout nurses who would like to be part of the close-knit multidisciplinary team at SALHN. Providing an opportunity to have a positive impact in Cardiac and Thoracic surgery in Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders Private Hospital. Multiple positions, full time and part time are available.
About the Role:
As the Cardiothoracic scrub/scout nurse you will:
- Demonstrate proven skills and experience in the instrument and circulating roles in cardiac and thoracic surgery.
- Continuously develop professional skills and knowledge through ongoing education, training and experience.
- Supervise and mentor junior team members and students.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with all participants of the healthcare team.
- Maintain accurate, detailed records of the patient’s perioperative episode of care.
- Ensure a safe and sterile environment in the Cardiothoracic Theatre setting.
To be successful in this role
- Experience in cardiothoracic operating theatres
- Display a keen interest in cardiac and thoracic surgery
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility to participate in and on call roster and after hours work according to theatre workload requirements.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure healthcare environment.
