Position:
An opportunity exists for a Clinical Psychologist to work with a dynamic multidisciplinary team of Pain Management professionals in a world class Pain Management Centre; making a positive difference to people with persistent non-cancer and cancer pain and survivors of cancer.
Place of work:
You will be working with the Department of Pain Management in Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick, Sydney.

What you'll be doing

The provision of high quality evidence-based psychological assessment and intervention services to patients/consumers of the Department of Pain Management. This includes a specialist contribution to the biopsychosocial case formulation and treatment plan of the multidisciplinary team for patients with persistent non-cancer pain, cancer pain, survivors of cancer and those in the post-acute pain phase. Interventions will aim to help patients learn active self-management strategies to deal with stress and uncertainty, to improve function and quality of life. Patients will primarily be seen in the outpatient setting, with occasional consultations as inpatients of the treating team. Interventions will be both as individuals (one-on-one) and in groups of patients either in a directly face to face setting and by telehealth. The role involves participation in quality improvement and research to improve patient care and patient related outcomes and also assists in the development and provision of education and training programs.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

  • Full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, with Endorsement in Clinical Psychology (or eligibility to progress to same), along with a minimum two-year full-time equivalent Master or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of evidence-based psychological assessment, intervention and evaluation of clinical outcomes with consumers in acute or outpatient hospital or palliative care settings
  • Capacity to design and implement short and medium term, individual and group treatment protocols for people living with pain and/or end-of-life challenges.
  • Demonstrate high level written and verbal communication skills, organisational skills and time management skills
  • Ability to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff
  • Demonstrated experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a health setting
  • Demonstrated experience in and commitment to quality improvement and research
  • Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position)
