Salary Range: $61,981 - $66,477 (PN: 31167)
The Communication Support Assistant (CSA) works in accordance with the Directorate's policies and operates under the general direction of the Itinerant Teacher- Hearing and the Classroom Teacher. The primary responsibility of the CSA is to provide signed Communication Support to students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, facilitating language and communication access in Auslan (Australian Sign Language) and English. This support aims to assist students in accessing educational programs and school activities on the same basis as their peers. The position is school-based, and staff are required to support several students from P-12 located in various schools across the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Certificate IV in Auslan is a minimum requirement for this role.
Eligibility/ Other Requirements:
- Must have current ACT Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) Registration;
- Minimum Certificate IV Auslan and above OR be able to demonstrate equivalent Auslan proficiency (such as by being a native Auslan user).
- Mobile phone;
- Possession of a current Driver’s License and access to a private vehicle - regularly required to attend more than one school within one working day.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE
- Diploma of Auslan;
- Diploma of Interpreting
- Certificate III or above in Education Support, School Support Services or equivalent
- NAATI Certified Provisional Interpreter Credential
Note: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. These roles may full or part time and may be offered to fill temporary vacancies in the team. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. This position is part-time at (18:00) hours per week and the full-time salary noted above will be pro-rata.
