Communications Coordinator - 12 Months Maternity Leave Cover
Family day care is an approved form of early childhood education where educators work from their own home.
Family Day Care Australia (FDCA), the national peak body for family day care, is seeking to recruit a Communications Coordinator to join our Marketing and Events team. The successful candidate will contribute to the communications functions of FDCA, by assisting to promote, support and represent FDCA members’ interests by developing appropriate positioning and communications, in line with the organisation’s strategic direction.

Through collaborative national advocacy, a strong research evidence base and high public visibility, FDCA supports, represents and promotes the family day care sector in delivering quality outcomes for children. FDCA is an apolitical, not for profit, national member association representing family day care educator and service members. Together with sector stakeholders, we are working towards a stronger future for family day care.
What you will bring to the role
To succeed in this role, it is essential to have the following minimum qualifications, skills, and experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, media or a related discipline.
- Experience in a similar role desirable.
- Experience in working within a not-for-profit or government organisation.
- Experience in developing written communications across a variety of media.
- Strong social media communications skills and high proficiency in strategic content dissemination.
- Innovative and dynamic, with a strong work ethic and a passionate approach to the role.
What FDCA can offer you in the role
In this 12-month Maternity Leave contract role, the Communications Coordinator will work within the Marketing and Events department, reporting to the Marketing and Events Manager. The role is part-time (3 days a week, with flexible hours) with days and hours to be negotiated with the successful candidate.
Key duties include:
- Coordinate and execute FDCA's triannual print magazine ‘JiGSAW’ and other print publications.
- Develop and publish FDCA's weekly e-newsletter ‘Family Day Care Matters’.
- Assist in the development, coordination and implementation of communications and external campaigns.
- Develop and execute a social media calendar/plan across a variety of social media platforms, including responsive action as needed.
- Develop and distribute proactive and reactive media content.
- Assist in the development and publication of regular e-bulletins to FDCA members and other audiences.
- Ongoing monitoring and updating of content on the FDCA website.
- Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of FDCA external communications strategies to promote relevant issues to key stakeholders, including governments, peak bodies and media.
- Ensure that all FDCA communications and messaging are consistent with FDCA's vision, mission and strategic directions.
- Provide ancillary support to the Marketing and Events Manager across scheduled and ad-hoc marketing and events related activities.
In addition to the role, you will be joining our friendly, welcoming and fun team at FDCA, with regular collaborative team activities and events.
How the recruitment process will work
Shortlisted applicants will be asked to complete a short video interview as part of the selection process, successful applicants will then be asked to attend a face-to-face interview in our Kincumber office. This is also where onboarding training will be carried out, and the successful candidate will be required to work from at times.
