Communications Officer

Research and develop content for a range of media and contribute to content strategies that will engage your audience by illustrating the richness of our faith tradition and its lived expression within the community.

About CAM

Presided over by the Archbishop, the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne (CAM) is the largest Archdiocese in Australia. It comprises around 1.1 million Catholics with a wide variety of people, cultures and ministries, providing services and support including pastoral, educational, social welfare, financial and administration services.

About the opportunity

Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Officer will research and develop content for a range of media (website, print, videos, social media, etc.) that promotes the Good News of Jesus Christ, and illustrates the richness of the Catholic faith and its lived expression within the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

This is a full-time, permanent position that has become available due to an internal promotion and offers a hybrid model of work (3 days per week in the office and you choose work-from-home or in-office for the balance), career development and a dedicated team to collaborate with and be supported by.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and write copy for the weekly Melbourne Catholic newsletter and print publication
  • In collaboration with the Communications team, research and write content on a weekly basis for CAM social media channels, as well as other media, including video (scripts) and the Archdiocesan website
  • Develop and pitch story ideas that will encourage a deeper understanding of the Gospel and its expression within the Archdiocese
  • Develop copy for a range of Archdiocesan campaigns and projects
  • Contribute to content strategies by conducting audience research, monitoring website and social media analytics, current trends and through creative ideation

About you

You are a passionate wordsmith and go-getter who can deliver strategic and engaging content from ideation through to publishing. You love to collaborate, ideate and celebrate with your team and thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume role.

What will ensure your success:

  • Degree qualified in Journalism, Marketing, PR or Communications.
  • At least 3-5 years’ demonstrated experience in content production
  • A strong understanding of the values and teachings of the Catholic Church, and an ability to appreciate and respect its lived experience
  • Outstanding creative thinking skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Sound time management that provides you the capacity to simultaneously manage multiple projects with short deadlines
  • Proficiency in a range of social media platforms and experience using various CMS (Craft, MailChimp desirable).
  • Experience in writing for Christian publications highly desirable
