The Opportunity

As a Communications Specialist at HBF, you will play a pivotal role in the Corporate Affairs team. Reporting to the Head of Corporate Affairs, you will focus on internal and external communications planning and execution on critical projects, issues management, crisis communications, and enhance the team's processes. This position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, analysing communication effectiveness, and proactively managing both internal and external initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive communication strategies for key projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Analyse employee engagement with internal communication channels and contribute to the development of internal communication strategies.
  • Maintain registers on HBF's key statistics, external stakeholders, and public policy positions.
  • Enhance HBF's crisis communication preparedness and be a key support in crisis events.
  • Monitor media coverage trends to help identify opportunities to enhance HBF's profile.
  • Conduct research on industry trends, market developments, and competitor activities for communication initiatives.
  • Foster a positive team culture, act as a mentor, and stay updated on industry best practices.

Strategic Vision: With over six years of experience in Corporate Affairs or similar roles, you have a proven track record of crafting and implementing external and internal communication strategies that align with organisational goals.

Issues and crisis Management Expertise: Your demonstrated experience in handing external and internal communications for issues management and crisis situations helps set you apart. You thrive in high-pressure situations, establishing yourself as an expert advisor and providing timely and accurate information to stakeholders.

Exceptional Communication Skills: Your excellent verbal and written communication skills enable you to convey complex messages with clarity. You have experience drafting, editing, and supervising the production of corporate communications to key stakeholders.

Stakeholder Engagement: Building and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders, including media, politicians' offices, and third-party influencers, is second nature to you. You understand the importance of protecting and enhancing an organisation's reputation.

Analytical Insight: You possess the ability to analyse data, drawing and articulating valuable insights that enhance your communication strategies and the communications materials you develop. You understand that strategic communications are anchored in supporting the delivery of commercial outcomes.

Collaborative Spirit: Whether working autonomously or collaboratively across divisions, you bring a positive and flexible approach to achieving outcomes. As a mentor and sounding board, you contribute to a collaborative team culture.

Adaptability: Joining a small team, you are ready to quickly build credibility, deliver near-term value, and influence outcomes proactively. You thrive in a dynamic environment and contribute to the ongoing success of the Corporate Affairs function.

Essentials

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Commerce/Business, or similar.
  • 6+ years' experience in Corporate Affairs or similar roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in issues and crisis management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with key external and internal stakeholders.
