This position is part of the Radio Electronic Section (RES) team and reports to the Workshop Supervisor. RES provides state-wide 24x7 service response and maintenance to public safety agencies communications infrastructure, systems and equipment. RES workshop facilities are situated throughout the State to provision support coverage for a wide range of communications networks that extend across Queensland. RES staff deploy to intra and inter-state incidents and events for the setup and support of frontline communication services.
The core capability requirements for this role are:
Assemble, test, install, commission and repair voice and data radio communication equipment, computer equipment, telemetry equipment, audio switching equipment, electronic recording of interviews evidence systems, and other electronic equipment.
Assist with the specification, design and construction of equipment for interfacing to the various communications networks, including the preparation of circuit diagrams and site and facility drawings.
Prepare and maintain documentation, including drawings to facilitate asset management and equipment maintenance; initiate and maintain records of work, material usage, equipment histories and other records required for efficient operation and recording within the unit.
Undertake the co-ordination and implementation of new installations and modifications of communications networks and electronic equipment, including the co-ordination and control of sub-contractors as required.
Comply with relevant equipment maintenance standards and ensure all appropriate legislative, policy, procedural and quality requirements are applied.
Contribute specialist skills to planning and project activities.

Role Requirements:Mandatory:
A trade or engineering certificate in radio, electronics, or telecommunications, and a current 'C' class drivers' licence.
Desirable:
Experience with analogue/digital radio networks.
Experience with radio test sets.
Completion of post trade training in electronics qualifying the job holder to research and apply new techniques to moderately complex technical problems.
Open Cabling Registration with Structured/Coaxial Cable and Optical Fibre endorsements.
Keen to complete tower climbing and rescue course
Other:
This position is required to undertake on-call duties, overtime and work outside normal business hours.
Travel intra and inter-state as needed.
Other Information:
A capacity to undertake the functions of an RF worker in compliance with Service policy in matters pertaining to working at heights, RF exposure, training, and other associated activities.
The recruitment process requires all applicants to complete and sign a 'Health and Suitability Declaration' form stating that they are unaware of any medical condition orpredisposing physical or mental characteristic that would preclude them from safely undertaking duties as a Technical Officer.
Preferred applicant/s will be required to undertake a pre-placement medical examination, which includes eye testing and psychometric assessment. (Note: Please refer to the attached 'Pre-Placement Health Assessment' section for further information).
To comply with the Queensland Police Service (QPS) policy requirements, members who climb or work at heights or who are exposed to radio frequency levels also undergo medical examinations every three years or sooner if injury or illness could temporarily or permanently affect a person's capacity to climb or work at heights or may be placed at risk if exposed to occupational levels of radio frequency.
