The opportunity

A unique opportunity exists for a Community Engagement Coordinatorto work in our Cancer Prevention & Research Division. Reporting to the Alcohol Program Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating Community Engagement strategies under the Increasing Healthy Eating and Preventing Harm from Alcohol projects.

Based in Subiaco, this position is full-time and fixed-term until July 2027.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Developing approaches to support community voices to contribute to our public health advocacy objectives for increasing healthy eating and preventing harm from alcohol.
  • Identifying and engaging community advocates who support our priorities for increasing healthy eating and preventing harm from alcohol.  
  • Developing resources to support community members to respond to issues of concern (e.g. guides, training materials).
  • Engaging with stakeholders who work closely with communities to protect community health and wellbeing (e.g. local governments, partner organisations).
  • Represent Cancer Council WA at meetings, seminars and other events.

About you

  • A tertiary qualification in a health-related field, community services or related discipline.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in public health, health promotion or social services Community Engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in preparing written documents for diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge and understanding of obesity prevention and alcohol harm prevention issues and policy is desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite products and referencing software.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA.
  • Positive approach to the workplace
