The Salvation Army's Portland Corps has been actively serving the community of Portland and surrounding areas since 1885. Portland Corps is a people-focused church, partnering with the wider community to help transform one life at a time with the love of Jesus. This is achieved through Sunday Worship Services, Community Supports, Emergency Relief, Thrift Shop engagement, and volunteer supported community services.
About the roleThe Community Engagement Worker supports the Mission Objectives of The Salvation Army (TSA) in the Glenelg Shire, through Community Engagement opportunities, volunteer coordination and support of Corps activities and initiatives.
This is a 13 month Max-Term, Part-Time opportunity (12 hours per week, through to 30 June 2025), based in Portland VIC.
You will successfully- Connect and build relationships with community members connected with The Salvation Army Portland and encourage further engagement with TSA services and activities;
- Provide general support with frontline administration needs, day-to-day operations, general correspondance and office enquiries in relation to Corps activities;
- Assist with online enquiries, monitoring social media and the upkeep of Corps website content;
- Manage the recruitment and coordination of volunteers to support TSA programs, activities and initiatives
- Coordinate Work for the Dole, Corrections, or other similar community or Corporate volunteer resource programs when required;
- Conduct regular team meetings to address operational matters, reinforce TSA's mission and values and ensure engagement of all employees and volunteers.
- Tertiary qualifications in either Community Services/Development, Social Work, Leadership & Management or similar - Minimum certificate level or relevant experience required;
- Demonstrated experience in developing and running community-based activities, prioritising tasks and managing time effectively;
- Experience in Community Engagement on behalf of a religious institution or not-for-profit organisation
- Sound presentation and communication skills (both verbal and written) with an ability to interact with a variety of people;
- The ability to have difficult conversations with volunteers relating to accountability and performance.
