Job description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families in Metro Melbourne?
Our Family Learning Club After-School Program is aimed at supporting primary school-aged children with their homework, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
54 reasons is Australia's leading child rights organisation - no ordinary not-for-profit.
Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we're here to make sure that children have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.
We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.
With the child's voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve - in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.
Where you come in:
In this casual role, reporting to the Team Leader, you'll work with a team of passionate and talented individuals to accomplish ambitious goals for our Family Learning Club afterschool program. As part of a team with Child Development staff, you'll engage children, young people and families in a range of fun and educational activities. Aiming to create a safe and welcoming environment, you'll work collaboratively with partner organisations, support program monitoring and evaluation and respond to child protection concerns.
You will make an impact by:

  • Building family capacity by using partnership, outcomes based, strengths' perspective and client-centred approaches
  • Identifying where additional assistance and external services are required, providing appropriate information, support and referrals
  • Collaborating with team members to deliver the Play2Learn program
  • Promoting positive and culturally respectful approaches to parenting, and child and family wellbeing

Does this sound like you?
You have experience working with children and families, and the ability to think on your feet, which allows you to find solutions to complex situations. Your cultural knowledge will help you build strong connections with children and families from varying cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. You consider yourself a team player, and you have an 'all-hands-on-deck' attitude.
This role requires:

  • Ability to build partnerships with local families and stakeholders
  • Well-developed time management skills
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Diploma Community Services, Education, Childhood Development or a related area, or significant equivalent experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish goals collaboratively with families and team members
  • Ability to enter and maintain information and case notes in an electronic database

Working at 54 reasons is more than just a job.
54 Reasons is proudly part of Save the Children Australia. We are a learning organisation that invests in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is approximately 1100 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.
We are creative, connected and accountable, bringing energy, guts and ideas to all we do to champion children in Australia and partner with families, communities and partners to bring about change.
Our people work from both home and office, with important moments held in-person to foster belonging and support professional development.
Other benefits include:

  • Award rate salary (Level 2.1 - $40.26 per hour) plus super
  • Health and wellbeing support, including EAP and professional supervision
  • Opportunity to work on additional projects alongside business as usual
  • Internal employment and development opportunities
